Under the guidance of our brilliant theatre director Russell Bolam, a cast of up to 14 actors will dive into a well-known play, which will be chosen after registration closes in the New Year. It's suitable for anyone who's completed our Scene Work or equivalent. Come and join the fun! In ten weekly sessions you will explore the world of the play, its characters, and the relationships within it, as well as looking at staging and the actor-audience relationship, all culminating in a performance and after-party for friends and family. - Explore the play’s world and understand what makes it tick - Craft a character through playful rehearsal - Grow confidence in movement, voice, and being part of an ensemble - Learn how staging works and how to take direction like a pro - Build authenticity in a supportive, fun environment Each Amateur Theatre course is based on a different play. Previous courses Russell has directed have explored modern and classical theatre and have included: David Mamet's Sexual Perversity in Chicago, Harold Pinter's Betrayal, Alan Ayckbourn's Bedroom Farce, Tennessee Williams' A Streetcar Named Desire, Edward Albee’s Who’s afraid of Virginia Woolf, Sophie Treadwell’s Machinal, Arthur Miller’s Crucible, Moira Buffini’s Gabriel, Shakespeare’s Tempest, Tony Kushner’s Angels in America, Annie Baker's The Flick, Anthony Neilson's Unreacheable, Kevin Elyot's The Day I Stood Still, Nick Payne's Constellations, and Sam Holcroft's Rules for Living. The course is spread over 10 weekly sessions of 2 hours each. We keep group sizes small to allow for focused, individual feedback. Whether you’re building skills, rediscovering a passion, or trying something entirely new, this course teaches you, in a fun and structured way, how to step onto stage with confidence.
